Marrakech is a fascinating city and a wonderful place to explore. There is a huge range of impressive places to visit, from the bustling souks to the beautiful Pasha’s Palace (Dar Bacha). The palace is stunning and is only 10 minutes from our door. If you’re looking to get away from the crowds, then the Pasha’s Palace is perfect as it tends to not be so full of tourists.
The sister of the last Pasha, Tami el Glaoui, was the owner of Riad el Zohar and obviously a very important lady. The last Pasha was a great friend of Winston Churchill and actually attended the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth in 1953.
Marrakech is also well known for its warm weather, with daytime temperatures known to sometimes climb to above 40°C. The heat can be hard to handle, but there’s no reason that should get in the way of your holiday. There are plenty of ways to relax and cool down while exploring the city. Take a look below at some of our top tips for keeping cool in Marrakech.
Stick to the shade and cool off indoors
With so much to see in Marrakech, it can be tempting to stay outside and explore for as long as possible. However, it’s best to try and limit how long you spend out in the sun to avoid problems like dehydration. Stick to the shade if you can and take a break somewhere cool if you need to.
If the heat gets too much, try and find somewhere with air conditioning and stay there for a while. If you’re staying with us, don’t forget that all of our rooms have reversible air conditioning to keep them cool in both summer and winter.
Dress appropriately
If you’re exploring Marrakech, its important to dress appropriately – both for the weather and for the country’s culture. Dress modestly, and always keep the temperature in mind. For example, long-sleeved linen or light cotton shirts are great for keeping cool and covered when it gets particularly hot. Don’t forget to drink water
This may seem like obvious advice, but it’s important to drink water regularly – especially when Marrakech can see temperatures above 40°C. The heat will make you thirsty, so it’s important to carry water with you wherever you go. Luckily, water is available to buy throughout the city. However, you should still take some with you when you’re exploring the sights, just in case. Heat stroke and dehydration can happen very quickly and can be very serious and medical attention may be required in some cases.
Go for a swim!
Swimming is a perfect way to cool off when it gets too hot. It’s also a fun way to exercise and relax after a busy day exploring the souks and the sights that Marrakech has to offer. Pools are not a typical feature of riads in Marrakech, but if you’re staying with us then you’re in luck! Our guests can enjoy our beautiful pool facilities any time they need to escape the heat of Marrakech, or just need to cool down.
